The beach is one of Milo’s and my favorite places to walk. We wander, take our time, and notice the little things—the way the palms lean in the ocean breeze, the changing blues of the water, and the shadows dancing across the grass.
This painting was inspired by one of those walks at Seal Beach. Dogs aren’t allowed on the pier, so Milo and I found our own perfect spot—a sunny park overlooking the beach.
Milo doesn’t exactly make plein air painting easy, but he makes a pretty great exploring companion. I take lots of reference photos on our walks, then bring those moments home to my studio to paint.
Sometimes the best view is simply the one right where you are.
